Privacy Policy

How we handle your information — plainly and honestly.

Effective Date / Last Updated: June 16, 2026

Just Safe Food LLC, a Delaware limited liability company (“we,” “us,” “our,” or “Just Safe Food”), operates the website located at justsafefood.com and the online food-handler training course offered through it (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect personal information when you use the Service, and the choices and rights you have regarding that information. By using the Service, you confirm that you have read this Privacy Policy.

What we collect

When you enroll in a course, we ask for your first name, last name, email address, and state. We use this information to create your learning account and enroll you in the course.

We collect the following categories of personal information:

  • Identifiers. First name, last name, and email address you provide at enrollment; a username and password you create; and an account identifier we generate.
  • Learner information. The U.S. state you identify at enrollment; the course you enroll in; your course progress; the date and result of your final assessment; and information on the certificate issued to you.
  • Commercial information. Records of your enrollment and any support requests.
  • Payment information. We do not receive or store your full payment card number, expiration date, or security code. Stripe, Inc., our payment processor, handles that information directly. Stripe provides us with limited transaction data (e.g., transaction identifier, amount, last four digits of the card, and billing ZIP code) so that we can reconcile your enrollment.
  • Internet and device information. Our hosting and security tools automatically record limited server and device data when you visit the Service, such as IP address, browser type, operating system, referring page, and date/time stamps. We use this information for site administration, security, and error diagnostics.
  • Communications. If you contact us for support, we keep the contents of that correspondence.

Where we get this information

We receive personal information directly from you when you enroll, contact us, or use the Service; automatically from your device when you visit the Service; and from Stripe, our payment processor, with respect to payment transactions.

Payment

Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card number, expiration date, or security code. Stripe handles all payment data securely on their end. Stripe's handling of your payment information is governed by Stripe's privacy policy, available at https://stripe.com/privacy. We do not control Stripe's practices and are not responsible for them.

How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Create your account on our learning platform
  • Enroll you in the course you purchased
  • Issue your certificate when you pass
  • Respond if you contact us with questions
  • Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service, including detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, and credential sharing on our assessment
  • Verify your identity as the individual who completed the course when a certificate is later presented to a regulator, employer, or other relying party
  • Comply with legal obligations, respond to lawful requests from public authorities, and enforce our Terms of Use
  • Generate aggregated, de-identified data about use of the Service (we do not attempt to re-identify de-identified data)

Who we share information with

We share personal information only as described below:

  • Service providers. We share information with vendors that help us operate the Service, including our hosting provider, learning-platform vendor, email service, and security and analytics tools. These vendors are bound by contract to use information only to perform services for us.
  • Payment processor. Stripe processes your payment and provides us with the transaction data described above.
  • Legal and safety. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, legal process, or a lawful request by a government or regulatory authority; to enforce our Terms of Use; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Just Safe Food, our learners, or the public.
  • Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, or in the event of bankruptcy, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change and any choices you may have.
  • With your direction. We share information with any person or entity you expressly direct us to (for example, an employer that you ask to receive your certificate).

What we don't do

We don't sell your personal information. We don't share it with third parties for marketing. We don't send you promotional emails unless you ask us to. Specifically, in the twelve months preceding the Effective Date of this Privacy Policy, we have not “sold” or “shared” personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (the “CCPA”), and parallel state privacy laws, and we have not “processed personal information for targeted advertising” under those laws. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under the age of sixteen.

Cookies

We use minimal, functional cookies to keep the site working properly. We don't use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies. Functional cookies include session cookies that keep you signed in, a CSRF cookie for security, and a cookie that records your cookie-banner choice. We do not use cookies or similar technologies for advertising or for cross-site tracking.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Some browsers let you send a “Do Not Track” signal or a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. We honor GPC as an opt-out of “sale” and “sharing” under applicable state privacy laws. We do not otherwise respond to Do Not Track signals.

How long we keep your information

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to maintain the integrity of the certificates we issue, to respond to inquiries, and to comply with our legal, accounting, and reporting obligations.

As a general matter: account and enrollment records are kept for the period you maintain an account, plus three (3) years after closure; certificate records are kept for at least seven (7) years after issuance so that we can verify authenticity if a regulator or employer asks; payment records are kept for the period required by tax and accounting law (generally at least seven years); and support correspondence is kept for two (2) years from the date of the last message.

Your U.S. state privacy rights

If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, or any other U.S. state with a comprehensive consumer privacy law in effect (together, “U.S. State Privacy Laws”), you may have the following rights with respect to your personal information, subject to exceptions and verification:

  • Right to know or access. You may request confirmation of whether we process your personal information and a copy of the personal information we have collected about you.
  • Right to delete. You may request that we delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to legal exceptions (for example, we may need to retain records of an issued certificate).
  • Right to correct. You may request that we correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to portability. You may request a portable copy of your personal information.
  • Right to opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising. As described above, we do not sell or share personal information and do not use personal information for targeted advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of; if that changes, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide an opt-out mechanism.
  • Right to limit use of sensitive personal information. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that require an opt-out under California law.
  • Right to non-discrimination. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

How to exercise your rights. To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@justsafefood.com. We will ask you to verify your identity using the information on file for your account. You may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf, as described in applicable law; we will ask the agent to provide written permission from you and may ask you to verify the request.

We will respond within the period required by the applicable law (generally forty-five days under California law, with the ability to extend once for another forty-five days if necessary).

California “Shine the Light.” California Civil Code § 1798.83 permits California residents to request information about our disclosure of personal information to third parties for their direct-marketing purposes. We do not make such disclosures.

Appeals. If we decline to act on your request and you are a resident of a state that provides an appeal right (including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and others), you may appeal by replying to our response, and we will reconsider and respond within the period required by law. If your appeal is denied, you may contact the attorney general of your state.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we will post a prominent notice on the Service and, where we have a current email address for you, email you. The “Effective Date / Last Updated” at the top of this Privacy Policy shows when it was most recently revised. Your continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes your acknowledgment of the updated Privacy Policy.
